Description

The Development Director is responsible for managing all revenue streams that support the Hockaday’s mission through programs, exhibitions, events and special projects. He/she will work with the Executive Director, Development Committee, and Board of Directors to develop and implement strategic fundraising programs to broaden the Museum’s income sources, including but not limited to major and individual gifts, corporate sponsorships, grants, special events, individual and corporate memberships, online fundraising, and in-kind donations.

The candidate will be a relationship builder, skilled in new prospect generation and donor stewardship, with superior interpersonal skills and high ethical standards. Adhering to a budget and meeting fundraising goals are crucial components of this position. The Development Director will implement, revise as required, and monitor progress against a Development Plan that supports the Hockaday’s strategic direction and priorities, expand in-place fundraising and endowment programs, and develop new concepts as needed.

Requirements

Fundraising:

  • Serve as the Museum’s chief fundraiser, carrying the Museum’s mission and the brand to external groups, while maintaining a close working relationship with the Executive Director, Development Committee, and Board of Directors
  • Develop a strategic Development Plan with the Executive Director
  • Develop a program to identify and solicit sponsorships for exhibitions, programs, and special events
  • Raise the organization’s level of participation in grant programs, and work with staff to prepare, monitor, report, and ensure grant compliance
  • Develop and cultivate a viable annual membership and annual giving campaign
  • Strengthen donor base and move current donors toward larger gifts; identify, track and communicate with key donors, past and present, and ensure donor recognition as appropriate
  •  Coordinate with the Museum Operations Manager to organize and maintain donor and membership database; provide reports to Executive Director and Board in a timely manner
  • Develop, manage, and monitor Development Department budget in consultation with the Executive Director; ensure that the annual departmental goals and objectives are met, and maintain accurate records for all income and its sources
  • Serve as a community ambassador, resource and advocate on behalf of the Museum, representing the Museum at events and programs as needed

 Marketing:

  • Design and facilitate a marketing strategy as part of the Development Plan in keeping with the overall mission of the Museum, and report regularly to the Executive Director
  • In collaboration with the Communications Director, develop a public relations campaign that effectively highlights and brands the Museum as a dynamic community organization, including Hockaday website and social media opportunities, and identify and cultivate relationships with regional media outlets to build partnerships to increase exposure for the Museum
  • Oversee the creation and distribution of all Hockaday marketing materials from concept to distribution; manage mailing lists, printing, and marketing analysis on all materials to ensure message consistency

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, communications or nonprofit management and  a minimum of three (3) years experience in the nonprofit development field, including annual membership campaigns, marketing, and fundraising with confirmed record of success
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with a small dedicated team and a track record of building and maintaining productive relationships with multiple stakeholders
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task while maintaining quality control and great customer service at all times
  • Former museum experience preferred, with knowledge/interest in arts sector
  • Excellent writing, editing and communication skills, including public presentations
  • Knowledge of nonprofit organizations’ financial structure and fundraising methods
  • Ability to build solid relationships with local businesses and community leaders
  • Ability to articulate the museum’s mission to a wide range of audiences in a variety of ways.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office required. Familiarity with other software, including donor or related databases, presentation software, and social media platforms, a plus.

This is a full time, salaried position with benefits. Starting wage: $35,000-$37,000 depending on experience.
