Description

The Assistant Manager, Individual Giving coordinates, stewards and works to grow the Newseum’s midrange giving program (the Friends of the First Amendment Society) by focusing on retention and acquisition at the $1,000 and $2,500 giving levels. Under the direction of the Senior Manager for Individual Giving, the position works closely with the Press Pass membership program to ensure a robust pipeline of annual giving.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

• Manage, expand and coordinate the cultivation and solicitation of a pool of prospects with an annual giving potential of $1,000 to $2,500+
• Conduct visits to meet, qualify, cultivate, and solicit prospects for the Friends Society
• Identify prospects with capacity for leadership levels of the Friends Society or major gifts
• Partner closely with the marketing, exhibits, and program teams to implement promotions, partnerships and communications that cultivate gifts to the Friends Society
• Support the Friends Council, a volunteer group to assist in growing the constituent member prospect base and further engaging existing donors
• Update existing services and materials so all information is current and accurate
• Develop new constituent program strategies and services that advance the field.
• Research and incorporate leadership annual giving “best practices” into Newseum strategies
• Interfaces regularly with all departments to ensure key information is tracked and can be strategically used to drive gifts to the Friends Society
• Works closely with the Campaign and Development Services team to manage gift acknowledgements and other correspondence and data important for the stewardship of constituents and the maintenance of donor/prospect records
• Assists in developing an annual plan on a fiscal year basis and in managing budget lines for the program
• Manages a portfolio of donors and prospects connected to the Chips Quinn Scholars program
• Maintains membership database and files in a current and accurate manner
• Other duties related to the goals of the Development Department as assigned

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, with at least two to three years of development or related experience
• Demonstrated ability to take primary responsibility for diverse number of projects and to complete them in a timely manner with limited supervision.
• Self-motivation and discipline to regularly set and achieve work goals.
• Ability to maintain a high level of poise, reflecting the highest standards of professional conduct and integrity in all circumstances
• Ability to travel regionally and nationally to meet with members and cultivate new membership or annual support
• Ability to initiate and build relationships with members
• Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of staff in a team environment
• Mature judgment, discretion and professionalism in researching and communicating information
• Scrupulous attention to detail and accuracy
• Ability to think strategically, and to anticipate and orchestrate next steps
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines
• Superior written and verbal communication skills
• A work ethic that is self-motivated, reliable and detail-oriented
• Excellent computer skills; Raiser’s Edge experience preferred
• A passion for the First Amendment
