Description

The purpose of the University of Iowa, Museum of Art is to advance education and research in the fields of art and art history in ways that contribute to and enhance the academic mission of the University of Iowa. The museum collects, conserves, and exhibits major works of art in order to teach its constituents, including university students, faculty and staff, the Iowa City community, the people of the state of Iowa, and visitors from around the world, how to better understand and appreciate art and civilizations from around the world. The museum pursues its mission in accordance with the accreditation guidelines of the American Alliance of Museums.

The UIMA is seeking an assistant preparator for the Legacies of Iowa Collections Sharing Project, for a two year term, who will work with the curatorial coordinator for the legacies project, and the UIMA lead preparator to coordinate, pack, frame and transport art exhibitions across the state. As part of the prepatorial team, their main task will be the matting and framing of objects as well as managing works on paper storage.  Begun after the 2008 flood with exhibitions at the Figge Art Museum, Luce Gallery/Cornell College, Cedar Rapids Museum of Art, and the Gallery at University of Northern Iowa, the Legacies project provides UIMA exhibitions and collections to museums and galleries across the state of Iowa free of charge.
