Ralph Appelbaum Associates (RAA), an international planning and design firm with offices in lower Manhattan, is currently undertaking a significant new history and cultural museum project and we are seeking candidates with degrees and/or professional experience in African American Studies, History and/or Culture for a position as Content Coordinator for the project.

RAA is a diversified, creative practice offering its clients comprehensive planning, design and content services. The firm was established in 1978 to provide museums with professional communications and exhibit design services, With a staff of more than 130 specialists in various disciplines: architecture and interior design; exhibit and industrial design; graphic design and visual communication; content development and management; research, writing and editing; media design and technology, RAA provides services to clients with challenging missions in the public, educational and cultural realms. The firm is best known for large-scale, permanent interpretive museum projects requiring a marriage of complex educational content with physical environments that are at once compelling and smoothly operational.

Roles and Responsibilities:

The Content Coordinator plays a central role in the Project Team. Working closely with and reporting to the Project’s Content Developer, the Content Coordinator is responsible for organizing, maintaining, coordinating, tracking and communicating the Project’s content. Content may include artifacts, images, objects, artwork or text to be included in the Project. To perform work, the Content Coordinator uses content management and content development formats, tools and systems such as artifact and image databases, exhibit matrices, content and script outlines, spreadsheets and tracking documents and schedules.

In addition to content coordination, the Content Coordinator supports the Content Developer with research, writing and content development tasks, and provides content management and administrative support for the project.

On a day-to-day basis, the Content Coordinator becomes familiar with nearly all aspects of the Project’s content and along with the Content Developer, they effectively become the Project’s “in-house experts” who work collaboratively with the Design Team to develop and realize the project.

The Content Coordinator may also liaise with the Client; manage and/or facilitate interactions with content consultants, advisors or contractors; attend content related meetings, or perform research trips.

Requirements for this position include:

  • Bachelor’s degree or more in African American Studies, History and/or Culture or related field
  • minimum three years of experience in education, museum, exhibition design, or related discipline
  • meticulous research and organizational skills
  • excellent oral and written communication skills
  • ability to work independently and proactively as well as collaboratively as part of a large team
  • adept at Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, KeyNote, Excel, FileMaker Pro

The position requires an immediate start date and candidate should be available to travel. The salary is commensurate with experience.
