Description:
The USS Constitution Museum seeks a part-time Content Developer to assist with the creation, aggregation, and distribution of articles, web posts, newsletters, targeted press releases, and all other content designed to educate and inform the Museum’s audience and media about USS Constitution’s current restoration. The Content Developer will work with the Curatorial, Exhibits, and Communications Departments to develop timely stories related to the restoration, craft and edit all written content, select and edit photos, publish content through various outlets, and respond to comments and feedback from the general audience via online platforms. This is a part-time (16 hour/week), temporary, grant-supported position with a two-year commitment.
Key responsibilities:

  • Work with the Curatorial Department to research, write, edit, and publish informative and engaging articles and newsletters about Constitution’s restoration and related history.
  • Incorporate photos, video, and other visual content as necessary to illustrate articles.
  • Work with the Communications Department to develop timely stories based on Constitution’s restoration timeline.
  • Moderate and respond to comments and feedback from the general audience through the Museum’s blog.
Qualifications:

  • B.A. or B.S. required; a focus in Maritime History or American studies a plus.
  • 1-2 years of writing and research experience.
  • Strong written communication skills with an ability to write clearly for a general audience. Please provide writing samples with application.
  • Ability to thoroughly research and accurately interpret information in a timely manner.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Experience with WordPress or other web publishing platforms.
  • Familiarity with Photoshop for basic image editing.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
