Project Summary:  The intern assists with the coordination of the MNHS Internship Program, including social media, event logistics, the hiring process and community outreach. The intern will spend most of their time in an office environment working in front of a computer, although there are some opportunities to travel and assist with seminar meetings.

Student Responsibilities:

Community Outreach (40%)

  • Assist with the recruitment/community outreach as needed
  • Complete a spotlight interview of a majority of interns in the current semester
  • Complete a minimum number of informational interviews with MNHS or other staff in your field of interest
  • Participate with the intern hiring process, including the screening & interviewing process
  • Special projects as assigned, which may include attendance at career fairs or other community events

Social Media (30%)

  • Work with internship program staff and interns to research, design, develop, and implement a social media plan
  • Develop content (videos, photos, contests, etc.) for Facebook fan page and groups
  • Support the marketing of the internship program through social media channels
  • Attend weekly department meetings and monthly social media team meetings if available

Administrative Support (20%)

  • Provide suggestions for improvement regarding various aspects of internship programming targeting current interns
  • Assist with administrative duties such as scanning, database management and seminar logistics
  • Manage intern communications and program administration as needed to support supervisor

Event Logistics (10%)

  • Facilitate the running of intern seminar meetings, including materials prep, logistics, set-up & take down
  • Coordinate speakers and activities
  • Present a career development activity or a topic for other interns at the conclusion of the internship

Knowledge intern is expected to gain:

  • Knowledge of behind the scenes planning and implementation of the Internship Program
  • A bird’s eye view of a government/non-profit professional organization
  • Improved personal and professional communication skills
  • Involvement in developing content and marketing materials for a professional organization
  • Understanding of the Human Resources field through the lens of the Internship Program, from recruitment to programmatic support
  • Experience working with staff and students in a professional and a non-profit setting
Ideal degrees:   Human Resources, business, volunteer management, non-profit management, communications, history, or other related degrees.

Student Qualifications:

  • Ability to work well independently and in a team setting
  • Detail-oriented
  • Experience taking responsibility for a project in the past
  • Experience inputting and manipulating data in a database
  • Proficiency in using social-media technologies (particularly with Facebook)
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Leadership skills
  • Ability to think outside of the box
  • Experience with Microsoft Suite, Volgistics, iMovie, Adobe Photoshop and other media editing software is a plus, but not required
