Group and Tourism Sales Associate (Fixed-Term)

The Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco are seeking a fixed-term Group & Tourism Sales Associate. Under general direction of the Assistant Manager of Group & Tourism Sales, the Group & Tourism Sales Associate handles all group inquiries, including sending out information, returning phone calls, and following up with prospective groups. Processes and tracks group orders, and helps track attendance and sales figures. 

Typical Duties and Responsibilities: 

  1. Coordinates group business and handle group sales for existing accounts and promotes group visits and tours to those accounts. Further develops business from existing accounts by maintaining consistent follow-up
  2. Develops new group sales through active, cold, and email communication; researches and identifies prospects for group and bulk ticket business; assists with the implementation of group marketing and promotions
  3. Handles phone and email inquiries from groups; responds to all inquiries in a timely manner; follows prescribed procedures
  4. Processes ticket orders and takes reservations; enters sales data into ticketing system and processes payments; mails tickets and handles will call requests
  5. Ensures the fulfillment of group package amenities and incentives; assists in the development of incentive programs for group leaders
  6. Greets arriving guests/groups, orienting them to museum, and ensuring a sensational experience
  7. Coordinates materials, collateral and signage for programs as required. Updates tool kits and templates
  8. Updates digital marketing tools including company website, partner websites and e-communication
  9. Participates in local industry trade shows, Familiarization Tours (FAMs), hospitality and media events as needed. Assists with development, planning, management, and staffing of events
  10. Responds to lead generation from trade shows, sales missions and media events as-needed
  11. Assists with private tour logistics, including docent coordination and headset distribution

The Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco are the city’s largest public arts institutions and comprise the de Young and the Legion of Honor museums. The de Young, designed by Herzog & de Meuron and located in Golden Gate Park, showcases American art from the 17th through the 21st centuries, international contemporary art, textiles and costumes, and art from the Americas, the Pacific, and Africa. The Legion of Honor displays a collection of over 4,000 years of ancient and European art including Auguste Rodin’s The Thinker and houses the Achenbach Foundation for Graphic Arts in a Beaux-Arts style building overlooking Lincoln Park and the Golden Gate Bridge.

COFAM is the Corporation of Fine Arts Museums and is the privately funded non-profit corporation which supports the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, a department of the City and County of San Francisco.

Requirements

Education: Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, public relations, or hospitality preferred

Work Experience: Two years experience in sales and/or marketing and/or customer service required.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of tourism and travel industries.
  • Basic knowledge of art history preferred. Interest in art and museums required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong database and word processing skills. Ability to quickly learn new software programs. Experience with attraction ticketing systems preferred.
  • Ability to tactfully and courteously deal with a diverse group of colleagues, volunteers, members, and the public.
  • Professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Proficiency and organizational ability to work in a fast-paced, diverse, multi-tasked environment. Ability to manage multiple work processes and projects simultaneously, and the ability to be receptive to changing priorities.
  • Ability to work some weekends and evenings as necessary.

Step 1 of the pay range is $19.53 per hour.

This is a fixed-term position from July 2016 – December 2016

This is a union position eligible for the Museums’ benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision insurance plus a generous time off package.
