The Dayton Art Institute seeks a full-time Museum Educator for Youth, Family and Adult Programs to plan, develop and implement a variety of educational programs serving the youth, family and adult audiences, including, but not limited to, art camps, teen and youth studios, workshops, and interpretive programs for special exhibitions. The Museum Educator will develop collaborations with other organizations to increase the Museum’s impact and outreach by creating and nurturing partnerships that move the museum’s mission forward.

Requirements

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in art education, museum education, museum studies, art history, media or studio art or related field.
  • At least three years’ experience working in a museum or classroom environment developing and planning programs and managing individuals and projects is preferred.
  • Equivalent experience will also be considered.
  • Knowledge of art/art history, academic content standards, current museum teaching strategies, and learning theory.
  • Passionate about being a member of a team that is developing new art initiatives with a strong visitor-centered community dynamic.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and proven ability to communicate well both orally and in written form with museum members, visitors and colleagues of different ages, interests, and backgrounds.
  • Strong organizational skills with close attention to details; exceptional resourcefulness and displays good professional judgment, problem solving, and ability to work under pressure exercising tact and diplomacy at all times.
  • Must be able to thrive in a multi-tasking and changing work environment, open to new ideas, and have the initiative to undertake and complete projects accurately, on deadline, and at times with minimal supervision; working independently yet collaboratively.
  • Knowledge of current museum and informal educational practices, as well as visitor studies.
  • Research, writing, editing, and information management skills
  • Proven project planning, coordination, and evaluation skills
  • Proven ability to work well within deadlines on multiple and varied projects simultaneously.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, as well as the Internet for research.
  • Proficiency with digital technology, new and emerging media, and current social media, mobile devices and other relevant media.

This position requires the ability to work a flexible schedule.  Many museum events are on weekends and evenings.  Work schedule may vary to accommodate events schedule. Must be available to work at least two Saturday’s a month.

Writing Assignment

  • the relevance of cross-disciplinary content.
