Description:The education program assistant teaches, evaluates, and markets on-site and outreach school and youth programs at Historic New England’s Boston area historic properties to amplify the organization’s impact in the community. This position has a split work station, with part of each week scheduled at Otis House, Boston, and part at Pierce House, Dorchester.

Responsibilities: The education program assistant schedules and teaches all school and youth programs at Otis House and the Codman Estate. S/he teaches programs 3-5 days per week, reaching established attendance and revenue goals. S/he evaluates all Otis House school and youth programs and makes adjustments accordingly to ensure that programs support programmatic goals, remain tied to local curricula and state standards, and maintain a high level of customer satisfaction. The position trains seasonal school and youth program staff for Otis House.

The education program assistant also works with local classroom teachers and the Boston education program coordinator to develop innovative school program curricula, S/he maintains statistics on school group visitation; compiles and submits weekly and monthly school program activity reports for Otis House; attends monthly meetings of school and youth staff; assists in developing and managing school programs budget for Otis House; and develops marketing tools and promotes programs widely and strategically to target audiences.

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, preferably in American Studies, cultural history, or museum studies. A minimum of 3 years job-related experience (preferably classroom or museum teaching experience) and the ability to work independently. Problem solving ability and familiarity with team approach and multi-tasking. Strong communication skills. Word processing and spread sheet skills. A valid driver’s license and a means of transportation
