DescriptionPlease Touch Museum seeks a Director, Education who will be responsible to design, implement, participate in and assess the Museum’s array of play-based early childhood educational initiatives. Future educational initiatives may include implementation of a formal early childhood education programs that support pre-teens and kids through after school programs.  She/he will work directly with Senior Director, Museum Experience & Innovation (MEI) and Mgr., Programs & Learning on all onsite and offsite educational programming activities and assist with the implementation of digital strategies that will be incorporated in existing and new exhibits.

The Director of Education will oversee a dramatic redesign of educational programs by developing, delivering, producing, and assessing. She/he will work closely with the Senior Director, MEI and the Dir. of Exhibits to launch the Museum’s first digital initiative.  Will lead a staff in developing, implementing, and monitoring all educational activities including curriculum development, professional development programs and enrichment activities; implementation of pre/post educational program assessments and surveys. S/He will work closely with Senior Director, MEI to support staff to develop an efficient, consistent evaluation process and ensures proper documentation of educational activities and programs. Establishes and maintains strong partnerships with local schools, and community partners and works closely with Manager of Visitor Services & Admissions to deliver training to Experience Hosts.

Other responsibilities include but not limited to: Developing programs that range from every day to small engagements e.g. instituting game-based learning strategies, innovative digital learning opportunities, and hands-on manipulatives; creating: narratives and storytelling, art, design, and maker opportunities; intergenerational engagement tactics; and enriching free-choice learning occasions; managing projects from the point of conception, through prototyping to training and implementation; provide leadership, strategic direction, design and development of learning experiences and programs; work with the education team to develop and implement formal and informal learning evaluation tools; lead the PTM’s interpretive, programming and outreach efforts; budgetary responsibilities; build community partnerships and initiatives; and supervises and works closely with  Manager, Programs and Learning

RequirementsMinimum Requirements: Bachelor Degree in Early Childhood Education/ Child Development; Museum administration, Museum Education or related discipline. Master degree in Education preferred; minimum 6 or more years in a museum education department supervisory position overseeing staff, interns, and volunteers who delivered early childhood and youth family, community, and school programs; minimum of 3 years in directly delivering successful programs in museums and in the community, to families; young students; bilingual skills a plus; dynamic and inspiring leadership and presentation style required; minimum of 3 years project management experience; prior experience in curriculum development, project design, implementation and evaluation required; expert knowledge of best practices in children’s educational development through informal learning programs; knowledge of STEAM and literacy skill building required; digital learning technology, game-based learning, and constructivist theory preferred; ability to manage multiple projects;  game-based learning, educational technology, narrative building a plus; demonstrates the ability to analysis assessment data and evaluations  and excellent curriculum development, and educational writing required.
