DescriptionGeneral Responsibilities

The Director of Development Operations functions as the Advancement department’s Chief of Staff. This position manages operational and administrative functions for the department, coordinates communication with the Director of Advancement and provides oversight for programs and projects. This position also works with the Director of Advancement on department planning, strategy and budgeting.

The Director of Development Operations will:

Specific Duties

  1. Supervise Advancement staff in membership, development services and prospect research.
  2. Work with Advancement leadership team to articulate annual Development Plan and monitor progress.
  3. Help Director of Advancement identify priorities and ensure staff deadlines are met.
  4. Manage preparation for Development Committee meetings.
  5. Manage preparation for Advancement report at Board meetings
  6. Represent Advancement at interdepartmental meetings as needed.
  7. Serve as a secondary manager on select donors and prospects.
  8. Maintain accountability for expense budgets and regularly monitor income forecasts against goals and with Director of Advancement and development services team.
  9. Oversee and ensure the integrity of RE, IRS compliance, financial reporting and reconciliation, stewardship processes and procedures.
  10. Monitor department best practices, policies and procedures.
  11. Provide other Advancement support and perform other duties as assigned, including attendance at some evening events.
RequirementsQualifications

  1. 8-10 years development experience with increasing responsibility.
  2. Bachelor’s degree required, in related field preferred.
  3. Proven success in managing development teams.
  4. Extensive knowledge of fundraising principles, techniques, and ethics.
  5. Self-motivated strategic thinker with a proven record of working independently and as part of a diverse team, handling multiple priorities and achieving results.
  6. Ability to motivate and interact effectively with volunteers, donors, and museum staff at all levels.
  7. Exceptional verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability work in a team environment on department activities and initiatives with a positive attitude.
  8. Proficient in Microsoft Office and Raiser’s Edge. Excellent writing and editing skills essential.
  9. Availability to work nights and weekends as needed for events or deadlines.
