The Kress Museum Interpretation Fellowship at the High Museum of Art is supported by a grant from the Samuel H. Kress Foundation. The Fellow will apply a combination of art history training, understanding of learning theory, and sensitivity to the learning needs and styles of widely diverse audiences to support the significant expansion of the interpretive tools for the Museum’s permanent collection. The Fellow will gain a full range of interpretive experiences including written, audio, digital, film, gallery teaching, and online which will target varied audiences from adults to families. The Fellowship will provide a supervised environment where an aspiring interpretive educator can develop the hands-on experience and the confidence on which to base a future career.

WORK SCHEDULE:

  • Monday- Friday 9AM-5PM, (some weekends)

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

The Kress Fellow will play a critical role in sharing the High Museum’s European are permanent collection through a variety of digital engagement initiatives, including a new website and mobile platform ArtClix. The fellow will work in collaboration with the Head of Museum Interpretation and Digital Engagement, the multimedia technology department, and High Museum curators.

The Fellow will:

  • Participate in the conceptualization and development of how the Museum’s European collection can best be represented on the High’s new website.
  • Be part of the new website development team to determine how to best meet web visitors’ needs and browsing interests for the website launch in 2017.
  • Write object-based entries for the new website. Other web-based interpretive strategies may include interactive on-line activities, web videos, and more.
  • Create content (both text and video) about the European collection for the High’s award winning free app ArtClix.
  • Make presentation to the Museum’s docents on the European collection.
  • Participate in the team working toward the High’s 2018 reinstallation of the collections.
RequirementsQUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

  • B.A. in art history; M.A. in art history or museum studies preferred.
  • Teaching experience preferred, preferably in a gallery setting (teaching assistant, student docent, etc.) and good writing and presentation skills

Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent communication skills (needs to be a good listener) and writing skills.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in computer word-processing and database programs i.e. Excel
  • Ability to learn collection database (TMS).
  • Attention to detail, accuracy, ability to work independently and with a variety of people, and a professional demeanor.

Mathematical Skills:

  • Ability to assemble statistical information.

 Reasoning Ability:

  • Ability to assess and evaluate information as to its validity and appropriateness.
  • Ability to organize and express information in clear, logical sequence.
