Position Title: Curatorial Intern
Department: Curatorial
Reports to: Assistant Curator of the Collection
Type of Position: Unpaid internship, part-time (16 hours per week for up to three months)

Summary of Internship

The Curatorial Intern will have the opportunity to work alongside Curatorial staff in support of the department’s projects and needs. The intern will be exposed to and have the opportunity to assist with exhibition related preparations, programming, and collection research and prepare materials for a collection digitization project.

Experience Opportunities

· Supporting research and coordination for upcoming exhibitions

  • Assisting with organization and research of curatorial object files in support of the collection digitization project
  • Researching area academic contacts for departmental programming outreach
  • Other curatorial-related administrative tasks

Educational and Training Outcomes

This internship will provide an excellent opportunity to learn about the workings of a curatorial office that oversees a diverse collection of objects and will also offer the incumbent numerous opportunities to learn about the rich collection of the Gardner Museum, as well as exposure to the practices of other museum departments though cross-departmental collaboration.

Qualifications:
Requirements

  • Preferably a graduate student with a background in art history and an interest in curatorial work
  • Excellent organizational, written and communication skills
  • Able to do data entry with a meticulous attention to detail
  • Able to work independently and be proactive in problem solving

· Reading knowledge of a foreign language a plus
