The Director of Finance and Administration will be a key member of the senior leadership team, handling financial management, budgeting, human resources, and administration (including coordination of IT needs) for this dynamic nonprofit. With a new strategic plan, an award-winning educational program, and a tradition of innovative public engagement in sustainable agriculture, the Foundation is poised for growth. Reporting directly to the CEO, the Director of Finance and Administration will play a critical role in partnering with the senior leadership team in strategic decision making and operations. Responsibilities – Financial Management

  • Analyze and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner, clearly communicating monthly and annual financial statements to the Board of Trustees and senior staff;
  • Generate financial reporting materials for all donor segments;
  • Oversee all financial, project/program and grants accounting;
  • Lead the annual audit process, coordinating with external auditors and the Board of Trustees, and preparing all reports, schedules, and other supporting documents, including those for OMB A133 audits, if necessary;
  • With the CEO, oversee and lead annual budgeting and planning process;
  • Administer and review all financial plans and budgets, monitoring progress and changes and keeping senior leadership team abreast of the organization’s financial status;
  • Manage organizational cash flow and forecasting;
  • Ensure timely filing of annual charitable disclosure forms and registrations required by state Attorney Generals as needed; prepare all relevant federal, state, and local tax forms, including the 990.

Responsibilities – Human Resources, Technology and Administration

  • Manage all aspects of human resource administration – payroll, benefits, performance evaluation, training and recruiting;
  • Coordinate organization’s IT needs;
  • Secure and maintain insurance, including, but not limited to, general liability, directors and officers and workers comp;
  • Review all vendor proposals and contracts, ensuring compliance with all required internal and external policies;
  • Oversee administrative functions to ensure efficient and consistent operations.
Requirements

Qualifications

  • At least 7-10 years of overall professional experience; ideally 6+ years of broad financial and operations management experience, preferably in the nonprofit arena. The ideal candidate has experience of final responsibility for the quality and content of all financial data, reporting and audit coordination for either a division or significant program area, and has overseen a human resources function;
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA desired. MBA a plus;
  • Excellent Quickbooks and Excel spreadsheet skills, as well as proficiency with Word and PowerPoint. Experience with donor database software a plus.
  • Ability to translate financial concepts to – and to effectively collaborate with — programmatic and fundraising colleagues who do not necessarily have finance backgrounds.
  • Technology savvy with experience selecting and overseeing software installations and managing relationships with software vendors;
  • Successful track-record in setting priorities, keen analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills which support and enable sound decision-making in a resource-constrained organization;
  • Excellent people skills and ability to juggle multiple priorities with competence, grace, and humor.

Compensation and Application Details

This is a full-time exempt position (40 hours a week).
