Performs moderately complex (journey-level) curatorial work under the direction of the Chief Curator. Work involves cataloging, digitizing, preserving, tracking, and utilizing agency state-wide interpretive collections and related institutional files. Requires research ability to obtain scholarly knowledge of content and collection care standards. Maintains registration, cataloging, and record-keeping systems used to manage collections, acquisitions, and exhibitions. Requires physical strength and stamina to lift and move large and heavy objects in adverse conditions and heights. Will collaborate as team member or project manager for program projects. Assists in the development and implementation of statewide interpretive collections guidelines, standards, and tools. May supervise and train the work of volunteers, interns and assistants. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.  Performs additional duties as assigned.  Complies with all Agency, Division, and Branch rules, regulations, and procedures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Museum Science, History, Material Culture Studies, Anthropology, Information Science or Social Sciences.

Experience:

  • Three years of experience as a cataloger, museum registrar, collection manager, curator or position doing comparable work.

Licensure:

  • If driving is required, applicant must possess a valid class “C” Texas driver’s license.

ACCEPTABLE SUBSTITUTIONS:
Education:

  • One additional year of the required experience may substitute for 30 hours of the required education, with a maximum substitution of 120 semester hours.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master’s degree in Museum Science or Public History.
