Description:
PAAM/Art Reach is seeking a passionate gamer + game designer + digital media teacher and mentor for our teen and young adult (13-21 years) afternoon sessions. Rather than solely presenting weekly curriculum, the Game Design Artist Educator helps students identify interests and support the realization of individual and team projects; recent projects have included side scrolling platform games; digital animation; and projects that required coding and graphic design. Knowledge and enjoyment of board and card games, D & D, and chess a plus.

The weekly afternoon program, now entering its 9th year, will run from October-May (50 sessions); game sessions run two afternoons per week (Wednesdays or Thursdays and Saturdays)with program breaks that mirror the public school year. The successful teacher will be: committed to and enthusiastic about working with this age group; able to address individual needs and encourage both solo problem-solving and peer learning; track student projects and growth overtime (based on clearly-defined program goals); maintain a supportive, fun, creative learning environment; stay up to date on developments in the game industry/game design. The teacher will also be responsible for evaluation of his/her sessions, including journals and bi-annual assessments of students. Faculty are be paid to attend any program meetings, 5 hrs of initial planning time, and evaluation time. Classes are small: between 10-15 students; more than half of the 2016-17 program participants are returning from one or more years at PAAM.

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required + experience working with teens and young adults to support creative youth development in project-based learning environments. Working knowledge of GameMaker 8; MIT Scratch; RPG Maker; Adobe Creative Suite; Steam products, including Minecraft; Kerbal Space Program; Hearthstone. Familiarity with, or ability to learn alongside students using animation software/movie-editing software, and/or music software. Working knowledge of mobile devices such as smartphones and I-pads. Good with both Windows and Mac platforms and troubleshooting competency  as basic computer issues arise (10 program computers). Former administrative/management, leadership skills and general life experience will all be taken into consideration to determine the best person for this rewarding and creatively engaging position.
