Description:
With an attentive and proactive demeanor and a wide knowledge of institutional systems, the Network and Systems Administrator provides management and support for all network data systems throughout the museum, ranging from desktop PCs and Macs to signage kiosks servers, phone system and to print environments. Provides direct support for common office applications to the Museum user community, as well support for several SQL databases, and other web-based digital platforms. This position ensures that museum’s needs are met and technology systems run efficiently and without interruption. He/she will report to and work closely with the IT Director, other IT staff and various museum staff as needed. Full-time status with general schedule of 9am-5pm Monday-Friday.
Specific Tasks include:

  • Assists IT Director and staff in the operations, planning, selection, and implementation of technology systems that directly affect long-range Museum business outcomes.
  • Provides direct and indirect support for 100+ users including MS Office, configurations, Network backups, file and print access, Exchange administration, virus protection and eradication, on-premise telephony, and specific IT-related research requests.
  • Stages / installs / tests / troubleshoots and repairs desktop, server, mobile, and communications hardware, operating systems, and application software, and Cisco VPN configurations, and other remote access.
  • Assists in maintaining local network (switches, VLANs, cable plant, VMWare infrastructure) and wide-area communication networks and maintenance/ configuration of firewall to ensure reliable and secure network access for business applications.
  • Oversees technical configuration and maintenance of digital signage, including HTML development
  • Provides support to departmental administrators in management / integration / upgrade for departmental SQL databases.
  • Serves as an enthusiastic and helpful technology resource for museum staff. Interacts with all levels of Museum staff, with occasional contact with outside vendors and partnering organizations.
  • Trains and mentors user community in MS Office and departmental applications and local technology policies, practices and standards. Maintains currency and provides leadership in the area of emerging technology systems for business applications.
Qualifications:
BA or BS degree or equivalent experience, with focus on information technology or other technology certifications required, such as A+, MSCE or network certification (or equivalent experience of 3-5 years). Experience with the Microsoft family of products, as well as VEEAM backups systems, VMWare solutions, emerging web-based productivity tools, and demonstrated hardware competence are all essential skills for this position. SQL database administration experience very desirable and MAC OS experience also a plus. Position requires Active Directory and network administration experience, assistance with departmental-specific database applications, on premise telephony, and assistance with a wide range of user requests in a Help Desk tracking system. Strong problem solving, interpersonal, and communication skills are essential. Demonstrated project management skills and ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously are also key. Ability to operate office equipment and general mobility throughout the building required. Must lift 60 lbs, climb 10-foot ladder. Alternates 24×7 on-call status with other IT staff.
