Description

Reporting to the Head, School and Educator Services, the Manager, Educator Programs and Resources develops, implements, and evaluates professional development experiences and resources for PreK-12 teachers.

This full time position requires a minimum of 3 – 5 years’ previous experience as an Educator in an Art Museum.

Major accountabilities for this role include:

  • Developing and implementing of professional development experiences for PreK-12 teachers that encourage use of the Nelson-Atkins collection and exhibitions and respond to teacher needs.
  • Conceiving, designing, and writing educator resources and materials such as lesson plans, teacher packets, hands-on interactives, and digital resources.
  • Assisting in the oversight of the development, implementation, and evaluation of school tours. This includes writing docent guides for new tours and periodically reviewing existing tours.
  • Working with the Nelson-Atkins evaluator to develop formal and informal evaluation for ongoing assessment of teacher programs and resources.
  • Developing, maintaining, and strengthening the Nelson-Atkins partnerships with the PreK-12 educator community in Kansas City and beyond through advisory groups, school visits, and participation in professional associations. Communicating regularly to school administrators and educators.
  • Supervising of staff, volunteers and interns.
  • Collaborating with marketing staff to increase educator awareness of programs and resources; IT to develop digital resources; curatorial staff to develop content; and others.
  • Participating in the training of the museum’s volunteer docents.
Requirements

Candidates should possess the following type of knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience:

  • MA in art history, art education, museum education, museum studies, or related field.
  • 3-5 years of art museum education experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of museum education theories and practices as well as preK-12 learning and teaching strategies, curriculum, and standards.
  • Knowledge of art and art history and a passion for teaching with objects.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience developing and implementing professional development experiences and materials for educators.
  • Record of successful teaching in a museum and/or classroom setting. Training in VTS desirable.
  • Experience with technologies in an educational setting.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills.
  • Strong project management skills.
