Description:
Old South Meeting House, a museum, historic site and active meeting place in downtown Boston, seeks an experienced, energetic and positive professional to develop, direct and manage all aspects of visitor services to ensure a high-quality, educational and enjoyable experience for more than 80,000 museum visitors each year. This key position works in collaboration with a small professional staff and outside organizations to develop, implement, evaluate and strengthen the visitor experience in alignment with the museum’s mission and strategic goals.

Responsibilities include:

*Directing and managing daily front line operations of Old South Meeting House and the museum shop to provide visitors with outstanding customer service and a positive experience while ensuring high attendance;

*Supervising, hiring and training team of motivated visitor services staff to work with the public in admissions, historic site and museum shop, and with members, group tours, school groups and public programs and events;

*Implementing programs and materials to enrich the experience of visitors;

*Helping set and meet revenue goals in museum admissions and museum shop;

*Directing museum shop operation including merchandising and managing inventory and point of sale system;

*Implementing and monitoring security and emergency procedures;

*Analyzing and reporting sales and ticketing trends; compiling attendance records and statistics;

*Preparing, analyzing and managing annual budgets for museum admissions and museum shop.

Salaried full time position with benefits; requires regular weekend work.

Qualifications:
We are seeking a positive and dependable professional with: 3 plus years related experience in working with the public; professional and flexible manner; adaptability in managing multiple priorities in fast paced and diverse environment; ability to negotiate and mediate at all levels, to be sensitive to differing viewpoints, to respond calmly and graciously to visitor inquiries and complaints and to be proactive and anticipate needs; demonstrated skills in working well as a team member and in training and motivating staff; excellent organizational skills; interest in new strategies around visitor engagement; interest in American history, preservation and civic engagement and free speech. Prior experience with a ticketing and customer engagement system such as Altru a plus.
