Job Title: Community Outreach Coordinator

Position Description

The Community Outreach Coordinator is key member of the Society’s Detroit 67 Project team. He or she will work closely with the Director of Community Outreach and Engagement to develop programs with the Project’s core and collaborative partners, who are community groups/organizations, local non-profits, colleges and universities, businesses and other audiences. He or she will also be responsible for the day-to-day communication to and coordination with the project’s many community-based partners.

The Community Outreach Coordinator is a full time, two year position with the Society. Employment will begin in July 2016, and conclude by June 30, 2018.  The position reports to the Director of Community Outreach and Engagement. Hours generally will be scheduled during the standard work week – MondayFriday, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm – but evening and weekend work related to events will be required.

Major Responsibilities

  • Supports the Director of Community Outreach and Engagement by providing day-to-day administrative support, including partnership database management, scheduling, filing, and partner packet material management.
  • Assists the Director of Community Outreach and Engagement with the development and implementation of core and collaborative partner programs, including (but not limited to family events, adult events, lectures, tours, community meetings, etc.)
  • Responsible for day-to-day management of the community-based partnerships, which includes facilitating partner meetings, maintaining ongoing phone and email communication and managing the event calendar on the Detroit 67 project website.
  • For onsite partner programs, works with the Public Programs Coordinator to oversee logistics and coordinate programs in conjunction with facilities, marketing, visitor services, and volunteer office as well as other units as appropriate.
  • Provides administrative support for Detroit 67 evaluation efforts, including conducting surveys processing input.
  • Works with various Society staff members on the development and implementation of staff engagement and training activities.
  • Works with marketing department to ensure timely and complete program information for press releases, newsletter deadlines and other notifications.
  • As needed, coordinates with the development department on fundraising strategies for select programs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in museum studies, non-profit management, education, communication or related field required.
  • Previous experience working in a museum, a non-profit organization and/or education is preferred.
  • Knowledge of and experience in special event management, public programs, and/or community engagement is preferred.
  • Exceptional customer service and communication skills, verbal and written.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple projects and shifting priorities.
  • Ability to work in a team environment, where day-to-day tasks may involve input and oversight from multiple colleagues.
  • Ability to take initiative and seek out opportunities to improve existing programs and to develop new programs.
