Description

The comptroller is responsible for maintaining and overseeing all the accounting functions in addition to maintaining cash controls, managing and processing payroll and responding to department directors’ queries. The comptroller reports to the director of finance and administration.

Essential Job Functions

  • Implement accounting policies and procedures
  • Establish and maintain cash controls
  • Monitor cash flow
  • Prepare and reconcile bank statement
  • Ensure transactions are properly coded and entered into computerized accounting system
  • Oversee particulars of museum credit cards
  • Maintain the chart of accounts
  • Establish  and monitor fund for each restricted account ensuring the revenue and expense meet the restrictions set forth by the donor
  • Track all pledges, assets and liabilities
  • Assist with the annual audit and prepare some of the schedules and statements
  • Prepare month and year end entries
  • Direct supervision of accounting clerk and review all daily transactions
  • Prepare documentation of accounting policies and procedures
  • In collaboration with the Human Resources Manager, process bi-weekly payroll and related filings (child support, garnishments, payroll taxes, 401k submission) and post to accounting system
  • Respond to inquiries
  • Work collaboratively with director of finance and administration in discussing accounting and technical issues
  • Work to improve operations with new  use of system modules within existing accounting system or a new accounting system when possible
  • Constantly training other employees about procedures

Education and Experience
