Description

The Cleveland Museum of Art currently seeks a highly motivated Department Coordinator in the Photo Studio to be responsible for cataloguing and archiving images produced by the photo studio. This person will retrieve and process existing images and stage them to current day network locations for IT processing to archives, DAMS and CCMS.

The Department Coordinator will schedule appointments for photography, provide accurate information to callers, assist and relieve photographers and technicians of clerical work and administrative and business details. He/She will serve as confidential assistant to the Chief Photographer and will be responsible for the Rights and Reproductions workflow which is the outside (non-CMA) requests for CMA photography (including all collections photography and gallery views) for scholarly and commercial publications in print and electronic formats, for research purposes, for educational uses, and other potential uses.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Systematically keeps records of work produced by photographers, allowing for digital images to be easily accessible to appropriate staff.
  • Coordinates the approval and delivery of high resolution digital image files to CMA staff.
  • Assists CMA staff in determining best ways to fulfill photographic and/or digital imaging needs through in-house and outsource options.
  • Manages the Rights and Reproduction workflow. Receives, reviews, and processes all requests.
  • Provides digital images as necessary to fulfill Rights and Reproduction requests. Establishes priorities and deadlines. Reviews publications proof with photographers and communicates with requester or publisher with approval and/or corrections to be made. Ensures that all reproductions of CMA objects are represented in a manner faithful to the object.
  • Prepares finished raw photos for entry into photographic archives and/or delivery to requesting party.
  • Performs basic secretarial duties. Answers phone and relays messages to appropriate individuals. Orders supplies. Approves and tracks departmental expenditures.
Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a four year college or university; preference for individuals with training and experience in art history and/or photographic digital imaging. Knowledge of Microsoft Access databases, or equivalent records keeping applications essential, as well as the Microsoft Office Suite, and Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
