The successful candidate is a scholar of American political history with a focus on the colonial era through the early republic. Fields may include but are not limited to American settler colonialism, new Atlantic history, new British imperial history, colonial and early American political organizations and institutions, or new legal/constitutional history. This is demonstrated through a wide variety of public and scholarly research products including exhibitions, collections, books, articles, blogs, catalogs, and monographs as well as programs and other media.

The candidate is responsible for planning and overseeing a new project on “Early American History at the National Museum of American History” surveying, identifying, cataloging, interpreting, and suggesting enhancements of the museum’s holdings of material that spans from the colonial era through the early republic and developing a plan for its interpretation and digitization. The candidate is responsible for carrying out research and producing scholarly and general publications, contributing to or developing exhibitions, providing public service by responding to inquiries about American political history, furthering education and outreach, and developing collaborative relationships with other institutions that have strong interests in Early American History.

Salary Information: IS-12 level (non-federal) $77,490, with promotion potential, including an excellent benefits package.  This is a five (5) year trust term position.
