Job Title: Public Programs Coordinator

Department: Education and Outreach

Reports to: Manager of Public Programs

Position Description

The Public Programs Coordinator is a key member of the Society’s program and education team. He or she will implement existing tours and public programs and assist with the development of special partnership and outreach programs with community groups/organizations, local non-profits, colleges and universities, businesses and other audiences. He or she will also work closely with the Director of Community Outreach and Engagement and the Outreach Coordinator on the development and implementation of special events and partner programs for the Detroit 67 project, which runs through June 2018.

The Public Programs Coordinator is a full time position reporting to the Manager of Public Programs. The standard work week is MondayFriday, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm, but evening and weekend work related to events will be required.

Major Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements a robust schedule of offsite tour programs (Behind the Scenes and Historic Houses of Worship) with the Manager of Public Programs.
  • Assists with the development and implementation of collaborative partnership programs.
  • Develops assessment tools to measure impact of select programs.
  • Oversees logistics and coordinates programs in conjunction with facilities, marketing, visitor services, and volunteer office as well as other units as appropriate.
  • Works with marketing department to ensure timely and complete program information for press releases, newsletter deadlines and other notifications.
  • Coordinates with the development department on fundraising strategies for select programs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in museum studies, non-profit management, education, communication or related field required.
  • Previous experience working in a museum, a non-profit organization and/or education is preferred.
  • Knowledge of and experience in special event management, public programs, and/or community engagement is preferred.
  • Exceptional customer service and communication skills, verbal and written.
  • Ability to work in a team environment, where day-to-day tasks may involve input and oversight from multiple colleagues.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple projects and shifting priorities.
  • Ability to take initiative and seek out opportunities to improve existing programs and to develop new programs.
