Introduction:
The Friends of Clermont seeks an Executive Director to lead this vital, dynamic organization. The successful candidate will build upon a public/private partnership to steward a small, but growing organization, and play a pivotal role in shaping its future. 
 
The Friends of Clermont is a nonprofit organization located on the grounds of Clermont, a State-owned historic site in New York’s scenic Hudson Valley. The mission of the Friends of Clermont is to support the improvement and development of Clermont State Historic Site, plan and manage cultural and educational programs in partnership with New York State personnel, and provide financial support to otherwise promote and interpret Clermont for the benefit of the public and posterity.
 
Job Summary:
Reporting to the Board of Trustees, the Executive Director is responsible for advancing the organization and achieving the operating and programmatic goals set forth by the Board and as outlined in its strategic plan. The position requires excellent management, organizational and communication skills, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively with the Board, New York State personnel, and a wide range of stakeholders.
 
The Executive Director is responsible for the fundraising and sound fiscal and operating management of the organization, and provides the executive leadership necessary to set and meet organizational goals.
 
Job Responsibilities Include:
·       Work closely with Board and staff to lead development and implementation of programs, initiatives and strategic priorities for the Friends of Clermont.
 
·       Work in cooperation with the NY State Clermont Historic Site Director to assure the Friends’ activities and goals clearly and effectively align with those of the State Site. 
·       Lead development and fundraising activities, including grant writing and special events fundraising, in tandem with the Development Committee and the Board of Trustees.
 
·       Develop and execute plans to retain and grow the Friend’s membership. Work with state on outreach and marketing to increase the Clermont’s visibility throughout region and state.
 
·       Plan and manage organization budgets, marketing, staffing, and administration.
 
·       Cultivate and manage organizational partnerships, business sponsorships, media relations, and engagement pathways for Friend’s members, visitors and volunteers.
 
·       Represent the Friends of Clermont at local, county and region-wide meetings and events. Be a worthy ambassador.
 
·       Act as liaison to Board, staff and attend meetings and ensure the Board has relevant information. Serve as an ex-officio member of all Board committees.
 
 
Qualities + Qualifications:
·       Sincere interest in the organization’s mission, its cultural and educational programs, and community development. A passion for history and historic preservation as well as knowledge of the Hudson Valley is a plus.
 
·       Team player with strong management, relationship-building and interpersonal skills.
 
·       Creative and strategic thinker, with a demonstrated ability to motivate people and manage activities.
 
·       Ability to multi-task and lead a small, but growing, organization.
 
·       Strong writing and communication skills.
 
·       Proven fund development/fundraising experience and understanding of institutional and individual giving.
 
·       Prior not for profit or government work experience preferred.
 
·       Computer literate and adept in social media.
