Manager of Museum Guide and Public Programs

Reporting to the Deputy Director for Learning & Engagement, the Manager of Museum Guide and Public Programs is responsible for helping create a museum environment where visitor learning can reach full potential for visitors of all abilities and experience levels through guided tours and public programs.

The incumbent will be responsible for managing all aspects of the Museum Guide program to ensure that guides are prepared and capable of providing meaningful and engaging conversation-based experiences with group visitors. Responsibilities also include developing and implementing a broad range of public programs for the museum’s adult and intergenerational audiences. This position works collaboratively with the Learning & Engagement, Curatorial, and Membership Departments on program development and on interpretive strategies that enhance learning opportunities in the Sculpture Park and Museum. It requires effective collaborative work and communication skills with staff, volunteers, guest curators, exhibiting artists, presenters, and the public. The position also works together with other departments in broadening the museum’s accessibility to those with a variety of physical and cognitive challenges.

This position requires a BA/BS degree and a minimum of 5 years of museum education experience. A Masters in Art History, Museum Studies, or Museum Education is strongly preferred. Candidates must have demonstrated project and volunteer management experience, the ability to prioritize and to work both collaboratively and independently. Strong organizational abilities, attention to detail, effective communication, and interpersonal skills are also required.
