The Nantucket Historical Association seeks a Project Collections Specialist to oversee a major project to assess, inventory, and rehouse the NHA’s exemplary collection of historic costumes and textiles. The position will report to the Robyn and John Davis Chief Curator. The position also works closely with other members of the NHA team. The position is a limited-term for 12 months, 40 hours per week, and includes holidays, vacation time and benefits. Housing is available. Responsibilities include inventory costume and textile collections, manage decant of costume and textile collections from existing shelving to new compact shelving, rehouse artifacts, update and improve catalog records in the collections database, identify and report on conservation needs, research found-in-collections items to determine their origins, and suggest potential objects for deaccessioning. Experience with handling historic costume and textile artifacts, as well as a graduate degree in Conservation, Museum Studies or a related field are preferred.
