Roles and Responsibilities:
School Programs at Wave Hill connect students to the natural world with high quality, personal, and hands-on experiences. The School Programs Coordinator and Educator (Coordinator) leads the coordination of program logistics for groups participating in our pre-K through 6 school programs throughout the year, and camp groups during the summer. The Coordinator develops and teaches programs for students from pre-K to 12th grade, and works closely with other staff to develop and teach professional development programs for teachers. He/she also trains and supervises interns.
The Coordinator facilitates the successful delivery of single-visit programs for visiting school groups at Wave Hill; supervises interns and part-time staff as needed; coordinates logistics of moving multiple groups through the grounds; manages and maintains supplies; and researches and writes pedagogically-appropriate lesson plans and activities to support our programs. The Coordinator may work with the Family Art Project and Public Programs staff to plan and facilitate family programming, and with Youth Programs staff to facilitate activities for the teen summer internship programs. The Coordinator will participate in other departmental and institutional programs as needed.
The Coordinator must have experience teaching children in an informal setting, and be comfortable interacting with groups of children out of doors and in a classroom setting. The individual should have familiarity with art education and natural science topics, and be highly flexible.
Qualifications:
Requirements:
• Experience teaching children in a non-traditional educational setting, preferably in an outdoor setting
• Degree in education, art education, museum education, or related field; advanced degree preferred
• Excellent organization, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Background in the arts, natural sciences, environmental education, or related field
• Experience teaching middle school students preferred
• Experience training or teaching adults is a plus
• Proficiency in Spanish or other language is a plus

Salary: Salary is in the low $30K range, commensurate with experience.

Hours: This is a full-time, year round position, reporting to the Director of Education. There is some offsite travel to schools, and occasional evenings and weekend days required.
