Episode 1 – Global Health and Human Security with Nath Samaratunga

Praxis Senior Editor Amanda Borquaye discusses the intersections of human security and public health, the need for a human security lens in different disciplines, and varied national responses to the COVID-19 pandemic with Nath Samaratunga, MPH. 

Nath Samaratunga is a Master of Public Health Candidate (2021) at the University of Minnesota studying Public Health Administration and Policy. His research interests include global health, health economics, insurance policy, and racial health equity. Before coming to the University of Minnesota, he created and ran two not-for-profit companies, SrimaTea and Global Bridges, that aim to support various health and education initiatives in Sri Lanka, his ancestral homeland. Nath received his B.S. in Cognitive & Brain Sciences with a minor in Entrepreneurial Leadership Studies from Tufts University. He became the sole research assistant to Andy Slavitt, former Acting Administrator for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services in the summer of 2020. He is also an aspiring pediatrician and health equity advocate.
