Each year the World Peace Foundation hosts research seminars that bring together leading experts from around the world to share their research and engage in focused discussion on topics related to peace and conflict. One of these seminars each year is on a topic proposed by a student team at The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy. In February 2013, the seminar explored the topic of “Western Advocacy in Conflict: Methods, Impacts, and Ethics,” for which a seminar note is available here.

We are thrilled to introduce the topic for our 2014 student seminar: Early Childhood Education, Conflict, and Peace. Participants will examine topics from the neuroscience of violence to the impact of conflict on children and the implications for policy and research. Panelists include WPF Executive Director Alex de Waal, Steven Pinker, Daniel Dennett, Dyan Mazurana, Jacqueline Bhabha, Regina Sullivan, John Lawrence Aber, Maryanne Wolf, Theresa Betancourt, Michael Wessels, Jennifer Batton, Yasemin Sırali Altuğ, and Rima Salah. The conference will conclude with a reflection on ethical education by Venerable Tenzin Priyadarshi Rinpoche, of the Dalai Lama Center for Ethics and Transformative Values (MIT).

All events are free and open to the public, and we are looking forward to bringing together researchers and practitioners from an array of fields, including peace education, early childhood development, violence prevention and response, neuroscience, and more. You can find more information about the agenda and speaker biographies at the dedicated Student Seminar page on our website.
