A002/A002B – Welding Studio

The Welding Studio operates as a research lab in the form of an industrial metalworking shop. After a mandatory safety training lead by the Studio Manager, you may receive training specific to your project needs. Students can choose to gain trade-level knowledge of welding technologies or learn how to safely experiment with various processes to redefine how they may be used within the context of contemporary art practice. The shop supports hot and cold work and features a large fabrication space, fully stocked materials room, and high ceilings with an overhead hoist to accommodate large-scale work.

Work in this shop requires the supervision of a Studio Manager or Monitor at all times, as well as the completion of a safety training workshop.

To work in this studio, you must first be trained by an instructor or studio manager.

Barnum 200 – Art Studio

C115 – Mission Hill Fabrication Studio

The Fabrication Studio is a dedicated communal building space at the Mission Hill Building for a variety of materials including metal, wood, and plastic. From a variety of saws to our new vacuum former, we have a wide range of tools to build with a variety of materials. We also provide installation kits for checkout to assist with hanging and other installation needs. Full training is available on diverse fabrication processes, as well as mandatory safety training. Consultations are available for sculptural design and engineering, materials resources and acquisition, or general “How do I…” questions.

Work in this shop requires the supervision of a studio manager or studio monitor at all times, as well as the completion of a safety training workshop.

A104/A106 – Print Studio

The Print Shops offer a variety of spaces dedicated to work in screen printing, lithography, intaglio, relief, monoprinting, and other alternative printmaking processes. Our shops support traditional methods as well as contemporary digital techniques and hybrid practices. Students enrolled in a printmaking course will receive a shared locker and flat file for the semester, as well as access to all inks.

To work in this studio you must be enrolled in a printmaking class or have permission from an instructor or studio manager.

A314 – Moldmaking and Plaster Studio

The Mold Making and Plaster Studio is a space where students can explore a wide variety of mold-making methods as well as sculpt with plaster. Students have free access to a variety of plasters and space to make molds, and may safely explore concrete, plastic, foam, resin, wax, moulage, and a variety of plaster materials.

A212 – Advanced Production Lab

The Advanced Production Lab is a meeting place for experimental fabrication techniques–from 3D-scanning for virtual reality to laser engraving on sandwiches, we’re always up to something special here. The APL utilizes digital technologies to support students in their creative practices. Studio Managers and Monitors are available to assist students with a range of projects involving fine art digital printing, 3D scanning and printing, laser cutting and engraving, and vinyl cutting.
