New Funding at the CEEO
The CEEO is thrilled to announce four new projects, funded by NSF, that launched this fall. These are new projects so we don’t have much to report yet but stay tuned for new tools, research and outreach tools.
- NSF STEM+C Designing Biomimetic Robots: This project will research the impact of an interdisciplinary bio-engineering-computational design curriculum on middle school engineering and science education. CEEO Faculty Kristen Wendell and Ethan Danahy are investigators.
- NSF ITEST ConnecTions in the Making: Kristen Wendell is working to engage elementary students, teachers, and STEM professionals in integrating science and engineering to design community solutions The three-year project will engage teachers in Boston and Marlborough Massachusetts.
- NSF DRK-12 Developing Teacher Noticing in Engineering in an Online Professional Development Program (TEEP): This research project will explore the impact of our Teacher Engineering Education Project (teep.tufts.edu) on how teachers notice students’ engineering thinking. Led by Jessica Watkins in the Department of Education, CEEO Director Merredith Portsmore serve as a co-investigator.
- NSF ITEST Research on Role Models in Engineering Education. Inspired by our long-standing STOMP program, this project will study how elementary students connect with undergraduate STOMP Fellows as role models. Merredith Portsmore serves as the PI and graduate student Karen Miel served as the grant writer and continues to lead as the project manager.
