Animal Importation from Non-vendor Sources
Animals from non-vendor sources pose a risk of introducing infectious agents into Tufts CMS animal colonies and are therefore subject to quarantine and intensive monitoring prior to release into standard housing rooms. You must complete the rodent importation process for all situations in which animals are to be received from sources other than those on the Tufts CMS Approved Vendors list.
Complete the Rodent Importation Request Form, a web-based form. Read the full Guidelines for Importation of Rodents for information on costs, categories of quarantine, antiparasitic treatments, length of quarantine, and other details. Contact TuftsCMS-importation@tufts.edu for any questions you have regarding the quarantine process.
Exporting Rodents to Other Institutions
To send rodents to other institutions, first contact the Tufts Tech Transfer office, mta@tufts.edu, to determine if a Material Transfer Agreement (MTA) is required to export the animals to another institution. If an MTA is required, it should be in place before the animals are shipped.
Next, complete the online Tufts CMS Rodent Export Request form. Tufts CMS will send a health report to the receiving institution. Wait for shipment authorization from the receiving facility, then arrange for shipment of the animals. Detailed instructions and additional information on the shipment process are provided in the Rodent Export Guidelines. Contact TuftsCMS-exports@tufts.edu for questions you may have regarding the rodent exportation process.
