Various Internship and Volunteer Opportunities, Engage Globally (Remote)

Engage Globally has a wide variety of online volunteer and internship opportunities available. Examples are described below. Volunteer and Intern commitments range from a few hours to as long as you have available. Volunteers and Interns receive guidelines via email and access to the projects on Google Drive. #COP26 Tufts Representative, United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) annual Conference of the Parties (COP)

Passionate about climate change, environmental justice, or international relations? Want to discover how you can take part in global climate negotiations and learn about the latest in environmental politics?

Apply to represent Tufts University at the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) annual Conference of the Parties (COP). Through their status as observers, the Tufts delegates gain important insight into the discussions that frame global climate change policy and action.

ALL members of the Tufts community, including undergraduate students, graduate students, faculty, staff and alumni, are eligible to apply to attend COP.

Journal Reviewer, The Journal of Sustainability Education (Various Locations)

One of the biggest challenges The Journal of Sustainability Education faces in publishing each issue of the JSE is finding peer reviewers. Each issue can require over 30 reviewers to help to ensure the quality of publication in JSE. They work on an open review model that allows you to enter our back-end review system (RATS), view the submission and fill in the very simple review form with your suggestions and comments to the author. Their peer review goals are to:

  1. Strive for highest possible understanding of the work being reviewed.
  2. Eloquently express your understanding of the work in a short summary.
  3. From the basis of your own expertise, reflect thoughtfully on the clarity of the work, its significance, and contribution to the field.
  4. Provide feedback that will improve the work’s clarity, significance, and contribution to the field.
  5. Express your feedback in comments directed to the author and/or the larger audience for this work.

Campus Coordinator, Environmental Voter Project (Various Locations)

The Environmental Voter Project is seeking applicants for its selective Campus Coordinator Program for the 2019-2020 academic year. Each Campus Coordinator will work closely with EVP’s Organizing Director to build a campus-specific organizing plan and then oversee all organizing and voter contact for that designated college campus. Campus Coordinator responsibilities will also include:

  • Outreach to campus environmental and political groups.
  • Organizing campus voter registration drives.
  • Coordinating campus-wide campaigns/canvasses to encourage people to sign “Environmental Voter Pledges.” Environmental Voter Pledges simply ask people to pledge to (1) vote in every election and (2) always prioritize environmental issues. (An example of EVP’s online pledge form can be found here: Multiple studies have proven that these simple pledges can dramatically increase turnout rates, even among people who have never voted before.
  • Helping to promote EVP’s social media messaging.
  • Organizing EVP volunteer events, including text banking, phone banking, and canvassing events.

Climate Forward Ambassador, City of Somerville (Somerville, MA)

The Somerville Office of Sustainability and Environment’s (OSE) Climate Forward Ambassador program started in the spring of 2019 and is designed to educate a diverse group of Somerville residents about climate change. The goal is to increase the Somerville community’s capacity to engage in climate action. You don’t need any prior knowledge about climate change to participate—in fact, the ideal group will have a range of knowledge on this topic. Any Somerville resident, high school age or older, is eligible to apply.
