Last semester we had to start planning on what our Spring semester would look like to ensure student safety, while providing students with opportunities to practice necessary competencies within our curriculum.
With the necessary PPE, our 2nd year EL-OTD students are safely returning to lab work, while closely following COVID-19 guidelines. With properly fit tested N-95 respirators, face shields, and scrubs, the students are returning to hands on learning in their Occupational Therapy Physical Dysfunction course. The lab time is devoted to conducting motor, sensory, and perceptual evaluations; clinical reasoning and reflection to create comprehensive intervention planning; splint fabrication and critiques; learning safe transfer techniques; and exploring the psychodynamic and psychosocial aspects of physical rehabilitation. We are excited to see the students in action with the department’s “new normal”!
