Professional Development:
Goal:
To support professional development for faculty to enhance their innovation as teachers and academic leaders.
Requirements:
Faculty must submit an application (see below); it is expected that award recipients will submit a summary report of the funded activity, including any educational innovations implemented or disseminated. Only one submission per year is allowed and grants range from $100 to $2500. A peer‐review process evaluates each request for its level to which the proposal adheres to the goals of the TREE grant and is on a first come first serve basis.
Application:
- Description of the professional development activity and funding requested
- Why is this program important to advance education at TUSDM? What is the need or gap that you wish to address?
- How will this program support your current teaching activities?
- How will this program support future career development and support the applicant’s Areas of Excellence (as outlined in the TUSDM faculty handbook)?
- What are the some of the learning objectives that meet the need at the department/institutional level (strategic planning 2020)?
Timeline for application:
- Apply at least 4 months before the meeting/activity
- Funding notice: before the actual meeting
- Funds may be applied to: travel, lodging, registration expenses only
After the program funded participants will be expected to:
- Submit a report
- Provide a USB with slides or other materials from the funded activity; these will be linked to the TUSDM TALENT site for sharing with other interested faculty
- Prepare a short presentation at the next “Spotlight on Innovation” event
- Challenges and next steps identified

Educational Research – Grants Program to Support Teaching, Education and Research Projects
This initiative provides seed funding for TUSDM faculty to:
- Demonstrate innovative pilots that advance student learning
- Address an existing educational need and improve teaching and learning practices
- Promote teaching scholarship through modeling evidence-based practice
- Promote best practices through dissemination to TUSDM faculty, across Tufts University, and/or and institutions outside of Tufts.
- Stimulate interdisciplinary and interdepartmental collaboration
- Provide seed funding for promising projects that may lead to additional and/or external funding awards
Grant awards range from $500 to $5,000. A peer‐review process evaluates each proposal for its specific innovation, potential for impact, and the level to which the proposal adheres to the goals of the TREE grant.
