GREEN BUILDING INTERN, NEW ECOLOGY
The intern will be actively participating in research on the availability and feasibility of green components for a variety of new construction affordable housing projects. Interns will participate in the planning and execution of greening charrettes with the project design team and project specific technical assistance and cost benefit analysis related to energy and water conservation, indoor air quality, low impact site design, and building durability. Interns will learn to evaluate project plans and specifications for greening and will be involved in the integration of renewable energy technology on select projects. The intern will also assist in New Ecology with additional research projects on sustainable development topics as they arise during the course of the summer. Administrative duties will be limited. New Ecology is a small office with no reception, mail room or copy room. All New Ecology staff are responsible for managing their own in-coming calls and correspondence. ENERGY EFFICIENCY INTERN POSITION, NEW ECOLOGY
The successful candidate will work primarily within New Ecology’s energy efficiency program, which works to improve the efficiency of existing buildings by analyzing historical energy use, evaluating building systems, and researching the cost/benefit of potential improvements. More specifically the intern will assist in benchmarking the energy performance of buildings; assist in analyzing building performance; assist in evaluation of potential energy efficiency improvements such as building weatherization, HVAC improvements, water conservation measures, and installation of renewable energy systems; assist in preparation of funding applications to support implementation of energy efficiency improvements; and complete other duties as assigned. MARKET STRATEGIES INTERN, NORTHEAST ENERGY EFFICIENCY PARTNERSHIPS (NEEP)
The Market Strategies Intern is a full-time position for September – December 2011 that supports NEEP’s programs and projects to accelerate the market adoption of high efficiency lighting and other retail products for residential and commercial sectors. A particular focus for this is position is research to track the status of related programs and polices across the Northeast; assistance to develop and maintain NEEP’s web-based resource centers regarding high efficiency products and to use related social media tools; and administrative support for NEEP project managers to maintain effective stakeholder processes. Based in NEEP’s Lexington, Massachusetts office, the Intern reports to NEEP’s Residential Program Manager and also works with the Commercial Programs Manager, Commercial Programs Associate, and the Manager of Strategic Marketing Communications. INTERNSHIP, GREEN DEVELOPMENT CENTER, LOCAL INITIATIVES SUPPORT CORPORATION
Interns will be expected to be integral parts of the project team, providing research support and using their writing skills to produce project-specific memos and more general white papers on green building, sustainable transportation, food systems, and economic development topics. Interns will receive hands-on project training, and will be expected to interface directly with field offices. In addition to project work, interns will also assist in an administrative capacity on occasion. This position will provide the opportunity to learn about a variety of sustainability issues nationally, and give input into how to promote these topics at the local, state and federal policy levels. SUSTAINABILITY COORDINATOR, CONNECTICUT COLLEGE, NEW LONDON, CT
S/he will be responsible for working with the campus and the outside community on projects and issues related to this initiative; support campus environmental committees; track and report on annual progress on various initiatives; research and aid in the implementation of environmental improvements in campus operations; conduct a program of campus education on environmental issues; coordinate and facilitate collaboration with campus environmental groups; mentor student environmental clubs; supervise student employees and interns.
