by Sara Gomez Garcia on August 15, 2014

FIELD CREW JOB

Background: Community Farms Outreach d/b/a Waltham Fields Community Farm (WFCF) promotes local agriculture through growing and distribution practices that are socially, ecologically, and economically sustainable. We forge relationships between people, their food supply, and the land from which it grows.  We are a 501(c)3 non-profit organization engaged in organic vegetable production, educational and food access programming just outside of Boston. New this year, upon entering into an agreement with Lexington Community Farm Coalition, we are also running the farm operation for the new Lexington Community Farm, on land near the Arlington-Lexington border that was recently purchased by the Town of Lexington.

Work Responsibilities and Qualifications: Field Crew members are needed to help us finish out the season with lots of fall harvesting, crop maintenance, and clean up tasks. We seek individuals who are mature, enthusiastic and able to do fast-paced, detail-oriented physical work, who love to be outside, and do not mind getting dirty.  A sense of humor is a definite plus. Applicants should be able to sustain focus through repetitive tasks, work outside in all weather conditions, work both independently as well as in group settings, and have a reliable form of transportation in all weather conditions. Crew members will be trained on proper techniques and approaches to all tasks.  Previous experience is not required but attention to detail and dedication to work are important qualities.

Hours, Compensation and Application Info for Field Crew at Lexington Community Farm: Ideal candidates are available Sept. 2nd through October 31st, Tuesdays through Fridays, from 8am to 4pm, with the possibility of additional hours being available on weekend mornings. One hour for lunch is provided, unpaid.  Compensation includes a pay rate of $10/hr. plus produce from the farm. To apply, please send a resume and brief letter of interest to Dan Roberts, Farm Manager, by email at dan [at] communityfarms.org. Applications will be accepted until the right candidates are found.
