Assistant Reserve Manager, Natural Reserve System

Under the supervision of the Reserve Director, assists in the management of the University
of California Natural Reserve System field stations that are part of Valentine Eastern Sierra
Reserve (VESR), Sierra Nevada Aquatic Research Laboratory (SNARL) and Valentine Camp
in the Eastern Sierras. The Assistant Reserve Manager will support research, education
and outreach activities at VESR. Requirements: Bachelor’s degree with 3-5 years of
relevant experience in environmental or information technology related fields, or
equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in networking,
informatics and technical direction to manage IT related projects including sensor
networks, weather data, data archives, and operation of wireless systems.  Ability to
conceive, plan, test, and troubleshoot laboratory and/or field experimental procedures,
including innovating as required.  Ability to use power tools and equipment and operate
passenger vehicles and trucks. Strong computer skills and skills in information technology
(e.g. networking, systems, database and GIS). Experience in project management, report
writing and budgetary management. Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with
external agencies on management and resource issues. Required to be on call outside of
normal business hours. May have to work on weekends and holidays. Strong problem-
solving skills. Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills and the ability
to interact productively with diverse stakeholders and reserve users. Excellent
organizational skills and the ability to work concurrently on a variety of tasks. Notes:
Fingerprint background check required. Anticipated start date January 3, 2018. Maintain a
valid CA driver’s license, a clean DMV record and enrollment in the DMV Employee Pull-
Notice Program. Reserve site has surveillance cameras in operation for security purposes.
