Butter Beans Food & Garden Summer Camp Assistant Director

Headquartered in New York, Butter Beans Inc. provides healthy meals and food
education for bodies and minds through our tasty, nutritious Food Service
program for school meals, Food & Garden Summer Camp, and After-School Cooking
Classes. We aim to improve the health and welfare of children today by
empowering youth with the skills and knowledge of seasonal, sustainable foods.

Butter Beans is seeking a dynamic, engaging, and enthusiastic Assistant Camp
Director for our 2018 Food & Garden Summer Camp. During the summer, campers
ages 5-11 will explore a seed-to-table journey in food through gardening,
field trips, tastings, cooking, and mindful eating.

Responsibilities:
Lead a wide range of lessons in healthy cooking, gardening, sustainable food
systems, composting, nutrition, and more.
Lead team of counselors to create a unique, hands-on learning experience.
Foster a safe, fun, and nurturing environment for campers.
Ensure that campers are prepared and ready for the day’s activities.
Attend and oversee all field trips and activities, making sure campers are
accounted for at all times.
Organize games and activities for students during down time or travel.
Help with pick up/drop off of campers and assist with early + after care.
Conduct daily inspections of the camp facility to ensure safety & cleanliness.
Other responsibilities, as needed.

Qualifications:
Possess a love for working with children, with 1-2 years of demonstrated
teaching experience.
Passionate and knowledgeable about healthy eating, cooking, food, farming, and
community wellness.
Superb communication and classroom management skills.
Highly organized, responsible, dependable, flexible, patient and detail-
oriented.
Team player and problem solver with strong work ethic, high energy, and good
sense of humor.
Desire to create positive change in our food systems and community health by
inspiring youth to become responsible eaters and future change makers.
CPR/First Aid Certification preferred.

Time commitment + Location: 35-40 hours per week July 2 – August 10, 2018 in
our Brooklyn and Manhattan Camp locations.    Camp operates between the hours
of 8am and 5pm, Monday through Friday at both Brooklyn and Manhattan
locations.  The Assistant Camp Director is expected to attend a paid Staff
Orientation and Training in June  with opportunities to work on camp
programming in the coming months prior to camp and a post-camp evaluation. The
Assistant Director may have opportunity to grow with other facets of the
Butter Beans food education program.
