Eagle Eye Institute-Internship

Volunteer and internship opportunity for ENVS students:

Love the outdoors? Interested in social and environmental justice? Help run after-school environmental education programs for urban youth with Eagle Eye Institute! Eagle Club is a new initiative to bring together environmentally-minded Tufts students and urban young people friom Medford, Somerville and Cambridge. As an Eagle Club volunteer you will spend one day a week in a Boys and Girls Club, running an hour-long program for middle school students. Activities include: nature games, teambuilding activities, urban tree walks and more! You will be going outside as much as possible. As a volunteer you will receive support from Eagle Eye staff in running the program, but there are ample opportunities for creativity and leadership!

Commitment: 1 day/week (about 2 hours including transportation time), plus volunteer orientation on Friday September 30. All classes and majors are welcome.

*If you wish to complete an internship with Eagle Eye Institute, there are other opportunities available for you to complete the 100 hours required for the Environmental Studies major in addition to Eagle Club. These include organizing a one-day Learn About Forests program and helping run the annual Hike-a-thon fundraiser in October. Job Description Intern will maintain and improve TIE website, on ThinWire platform, and WSSS website, in Dreamweaver. Write and proofread content for websites and assist in creating new designs for print and web communications. Intern will coordinate e-newsletters in Constant Contact and social media sites – Picasa, Facebook, Linkedin – with other interns and staff. The Tufts Institute of the Environment (TIE) would like to hire a junior or senior Environmental Studies student, or student with environmental knowledge, to join our team of interns. Duties: • Potential projects may include creating promotional materials for TIE programs and events, writing content for the TIE website, composing e-newsletters, and other miscellaneous office tasks. • Intern should oversee and suggest changes to websites and implement updates upon request. • Tracking time spent and changes made for each website – environment.tufts.edu and www.tufts.edu/water. • Intern will help oversee transitions of TIE website in ThinWire to a newer WordPress style platform. • Intern’s creativity and familiarity with communications will help drive the public outreach of TIE.
Job Requirements Skills/Qualifications: • Basic HTML knowledge and the ability to work independently are essential. • Excellent attention to detail, ability to learn new technologies quickly, and communication skills for a professional audience are required. • Familiarity with computers systems generally and comfort with an array of software including Adobe Creative Suite: Dreamweaver, Photoshop, InDesign, etc. FinalCut, GIS, or other software experience a plus. • Preference will be given to students with work study awards & students working in AM. Job Description Help organize and plan events throughout the semester related to the TIE Fellowship programs and any other programs sponsored by TIE. Responsible for maintaining office environment and assisting on projects as they arise. Must be available in the Spring. Must work AM hours. Some evening & weekend hours may be required. Also acts as Alumni Liaison between TIE and the Tufts Environmental Alumni chapter.
Job Requirements Duties: • Intern will work independently with various offices and vendors to organize and assist with events. • Have an active contribution to publishing newsletters, brochures, and website content. • Assists with general administrative needs for the Tufts Institute of the Environment. • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
