Internship Opportunities [Art Beyond Sight]

Art Beyond Sight, a remarkable organization that works on art education for the visually impaired, has two potential projects for interns. Neither requires a move to New York City; both can be done remotely.

1. White Papers on Access and Inclusion: We are looking for a person who will coordinate the production of a series of short white papers. The person will be expected to communicate with authors, traffic materials, and oversee deadlines, format, and content. This is a very part-time engagement for a six-month period. Some prior publishing or editorial experience is preferred. The person will be credited on these white papers as an editorial coordinator. A small stipend will be provided.
2. Museum Accessibility Study: Participating in and taking notes on six to eight telephone interviews we will be conducting with staff at small U.S. museums following their having held focus groups with people with vision loss; reviewing short online surveys from these people; and then writing reports based on their notes from the phone conversations and the survey. A small stipend will be provided.

Re the Museum Accessibility Study: As an earlier part of this project, we conducted seven focus groups with adults with vision loss in 2010. The Museum of Science, Boston’s Research and Development Department staff evaluated the material from those sessions. Our joint report, SPEAKING OUT ON ART AND MUSEUMS: Study on the Needs and Preferences of Adults who Are Blind or Have Low Vision, is on our Website. Here is a direct link to it, should you wish to share the findings with your students:
