So glad to hear that! Fall-blooming plants like seaside goldenrod (Solidago sempervirens), Solidago rugosa “Fireworks”, new england aster (Symphyotrichum novae-angliae), smooth blue aster (Symphyotrichum laeve), crooked stem aster (Symphyotrichum prenanthoides), sneezeweed (Helenium autumnale), and Helianthus “Lemon Queen” are all great native perennial choices !

Hmmm, it’s tough to say, but yes, an eastern carpenter bee (Xylocopa virginica) nest might have been in your heat pump frame. Nests are often re-used from year to year (by different individuals) since boring through wood is difficult work and premium nest sites are few and far between. If you plug up the nest entrance with caulk or steel wool, that would be the best way to ensure that the nest site does not get re-used next year. Hope this helps!
