April 1st was the launch of Novel Engineering Challenge- a series of three online Novel Engineering design challenges. The first of the three challenges is based on the book Muncha! Muncha! Muncha! by Candace Fleming. From now until May 19th, elementary-aged children will have the opportunity to submit their solutions with the help of teachers, librarians, and other educators. There will be two categories on which entries will be judged: Popular Vote and Judges’ Choice.

The award for Popular Vote will be given to the entry that gets the most votes from the community at large. Judges’ Choice will be based on the originality of solution, the functionality of solution, and the solution’s impact on the story or character. Winners will receive a certificate and a trophy made of LEGO bricks. They will be announced on the site and featured on our social media. The next competition is based on the book Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing by Judy Blume and begins on July 1st. Novel Engineering Challenges is funded by the United Engineering Foundation.

Our goal is to have a participant from every state in the U.S. so please spread the word.
