The Teacher Engineering Education Program (TEEP), teep.tufts.edu, is for practicing elementary, middle, or high school teachers who are seeking to change or expand their approach through the integration of engaging hands-on engineering principles in their coursework. The program is a flexible, affordable, and designed to fit a busy teacher’s lifestyle. All four courses are online, allow participants to work at their own pace, offer 16 total hours of graduate credit, and have a low student-to-instructor ratio. Participants are provided a rich environment of video tutorials, online office hours, and peer feedback as they progress through the program.
TEEP just proudly graduated it’s second Cohort in Fall 2017 of 21 teachers. The second cohort joined the program Fall 2016. This cohort was a mix of teachers with various different titles in their schools such as STEM Teacher, Library/Media Teacher, Science Teacher, Physics Teacher, and a mix of Elementary, Middle, and High School teachers. Our teachers came from all over the world, including Spain, Saudi Arabia, & Dubai. We had a mix of local teachers from Massachusetts and from Florida, Georgia, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Vermont. The perspectives from teachers with different cultures and backgrounds really strengthens the discussions that take place online during course assignments and reflections. These teachers finished up their work in December 2017 and still continue to connect with us. We have hired some to be TAs, to test out curriculum, write blog posts about their classroom work, and invite them all to our Tufts STEM Education Conference this June 2018. When our TEEP teachers graduate, we continue to stay in touch and will always be available to them as a resource.
Our third cohort was also recruited in Fall 2017. We had 35 teachers in Cohort 3 including 20 full certificate students and 15 single course students. They are just registering for their Summer 2018 content courses and are such a motivated and strong cohort. We can’t believe they are almost halfway done!
We are actively recruiting for Cohort 4 to start in Fall 2018. If you are interested in the program but have questions, please sign up for one of our webinars!
