Tufts Center for Engineering Education and Outreach to Host the LEGO Education Symposium and Tufts STEM Education Conference

On June 5th to 7th, 2018, Tufts Center for Engineering Education and Outreach (CEEO) will be hosting the LEGO Education Symposium in conjunction with the Tufts STEM Education Conference at Tufts University. The CEEO is a leading innovator in K-12 engineering education and is excited for the opportunity to bring together passionate educators and researchers over the course of the two events. Since its founding in 1996, the CEEO has worked towards bridging the gap between research and practice in engineering education by bringing new and innovative research and practices directly to educators and students. With various faculty, researchers, and students represented from engineering, math, chemistry, child development, and education, the Tufts STEM Education Conference will feature talks, hands-on workshops, and exhibitions of some of the latest research and innovations in K-12 STEM Education happening at Tufts University.

This year’s LEGO Education Symposium additionally marks the 20th anniversary of Tufts CEEO’s valued relationship with LEGO Education, which began in 1998. Since early in the CEEO’s founding, LEGO Education and Tufts CEEO have worked together to improve educational technologies, enhance classroom experiences, and promote a shared vision of hands-on, project-based collaborative learning in education.

Adjunct Professor, Department of Computer Science; Director of DevTech Research Group) on her work surrounding computational thinking in early childhood, Dr. David Hammer (Professor, Department of Education and Department of Physics; Director of STEM Education Program) about listening to student thinking, Dr. Natasha Wright (Lecturer, Department of Mechanical Engineering) on her work surrounding water quality in developing countries, and Dr. David Kaplan (Stern Family Professor of Engineering, Distinguished Professor, Professor and Chair, Department of Biomedical Engineering; Professor, Department of Chemical Engineering; Director, Bioengineering and Biotechnology Center) about the development and uses of silk in cutting edge applications.

This year’s events will similarly highlight recent research and innovations across disciplines at Tufts. The 2018 events will include speakers and workshop leaders across various departments at Tufts over the course of the 3 days:
