Each year STOMP sends pairs of Tufts students into classrooms to bring engineering to local students. Each pair is partnered with a teacher and meets with those students twenty to twenty-five times over the school year. The STOMP cohort this year consists of forty-five STOMP fellows from the School of Engineering (29 fellows) and the School of Arts and Sciences (16 fellows) with majors ranging from mechanical engineering to biology to education. STOMP fellows bring their excitement about engineering and teaching to their classrooms and to the STOMP program as a whole.

Just as the CEEO’s philosophy and practice have evolved over the years, so has STOMP’s practice and resources. As part of our efforts to align outreach and research, four STOMP fellows developed Elementary Engineering Notebooks last year and we have implemented them in every STOMP classroom this year. This elementary-geared version of professional engineering notebooks offers a space for students to document and reflect on their designs and also provide a medium for the STOMP fellows and their students to make personal connections. Another change we have made this year is to pair fellows with CEEO mentors, CEEO staff and faculty, to support fellows and offer feedback on the activities they plan for their students. We are excited about both of these additions to the STOMP program and how they help STOMP make stronger connections to the CEEO’s work.
