Overjet


What is overjet?

Overjet is when your top teeth are more in front of your bottom teeth than what’s normal; this is different from overbite, which is when your top teeth are too angled outward.

What causes overjet?

Overjet can be caused by losing baby teeth too early, thumb sucking or tongue thrusting as a child, sometimes upper jaw is too far forward, or lower jaw is too far back.

Symptoms of overjet

You may experience a lisp and/or mouth breathing with overjet.

Treatment for overjet

Treatment options for overjet include braces and/or surgery. It is important to see an orthodontist to determine the best treatment for you.
