What is Abfraction?
Abfraction is the loss of tooth structure by stress on teeth.
What causes Abfraction?
Pressure on teeth during biting and grinding can cause abfraction.
What are its symptoms?
Worn, shiny yellow areas on the lower edge of teeth; a v-shaped indent is also seen on the gums. The wear looks similar to abrasion but has a different cause.
Treatments for Abfraction
Abfraction can be fixed by bonding a tooth-colored filling over the area and stopping the stress (ex: wearing a night guard).
