What is Abrasion?
Abrasion is the loss of tooth structure by forces not originating from the mouth.
What causes Abrasion?
Hard toothbrushes, brushing too hard, nail biting, pipe smoking, and denture clasps can all cause abrasion.
What are its symptoms?
Worn, shiny yellow areas on the lower edge of teeth; a v-shaped indent is also seen on the gums. Abrasion looks similar to abfraction but has a different cause.
Treatments for Abrasion
Abrasion can be fixed by bonding a tooth-colored filling over the area and practicing better dental hygiene.
